FAQ
Below we have a few answers to common questions around packing for and visiting Montana, but if you have any other questions, please reach out to our lovely wedding planner Leslie at leslie@wandernorthevents.com!
WHAT’S THE WEATHER IN BIG SKY?
Located in the mountains of southwest Montana, the weather in Big Sky can change very quickly. In August, days are typically warm between 65-80 degrees and nights are cool between 45-55.
We recommend bringing layers for daytime activities and a warm jacket/wrap for the evenings.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE ALTITUDE?
Big Sky has an elevation of 11,000 feet, meaning mild symptoms (headache, fatigue) of altitude sickness are not uncommon. To prepare, we recommend you:
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – Begin drinking water days before your travels and continue throughout your stay.
Arrive a few days early to acclimate.
Take it easy upon arrival. Avoid alcohol and heavy exercise on day one.
Eat pasta. Carbs help your body adjust.
Drink Chlorophyll mixed with water.
Symptoms of altitude sickness include weakness, exhaustion, nausea, headache. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, you may try:
Supplemental oxygen from Big Sky Oxygen
IV treatments from Reset Big Sky or Big Sky Natural Health
B2 UrgentCare or Big Sky Medical Clinic
WHAT DO I NEED FOR DAILY ACTIVITIES?
Water Bottle: In addition to the altitude, the air is dry in Big Sky. You will want to stay hydrated.
Bear Spray: For any outdoor activities (even if it’s just a short hike!), make sure you or someone in your group are carrying bear spray – available at any outdoor store in Big Sky.
Sunscreen: At this elevation, the sun is super strong – make sure to wear lots of SPF!
Layers: The weather can shift quickly, so make sure to bring lots of layers when you’re out and about.
Fishing License: If you plan to fish, make sure to pick up a fishing license before you head out at any of the outfitters listed on our “Explore” page. Note: If you fish in Yellowstone, you will need a federal license.
I'M IN A RENTAL HOME – WHAT ABOUT GROCERIES?
Roxy's Market, located in Meadow Village (see “Map” page), is a full-service grocery store.
The Hungry Moose has two locations – Meadow Village and the Big Sky Base area. Groceries can be ordered online from the Meadow Village location and will be delivered for a fee.
Country Market, located in Meadow Village, is another option.
